Key HPC Workload Types: Tightly vs. Loosely Coupled
HPC workloads are generally categorized by how their tasks communicate:
- Tightly Coupled Workloads: These involve tasks where nodes must constantly communicate with each other. Think of a complex simulation where the outcome of one calculation directly affects the next across the entire cluster (e.g., forecasting hurricane paths, simulating fluid dynamics, or modeling molecular interactions). These require ultra-low-latency networking.
 - Loosely Coupled Workloads (Embarrassingly Parallel): These consist of thousands of independent tasks that can be run simultaneously with little to no communication between nodes (e.g., rendering animation frames, running millions of simulations with different parameters, or genomic sequencing). Nexqloud's scalable cloud infrastructure is ideal for efficiently distributing these tasks.
