The Migration Spectrum: Choosing Your Path
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to migration. Nexqloud guides clients through a spectrum of strategies, often summarized as the "7 Rs," to determine the optimal path for each workload:
- Rehost (Lift-and-Shift): Moving applications as-is to the cloud. This is the fastest path, ideal for simple, stable applications to quickly realize cost savings, but it doesn't leverage cloud-native advantages.
 - Replatform (Lift-and-Optimize): Making minor optimizations to the application for the cloud (e.g., migrating a database to a managed service). It offers a balance of speed and cloud benefits.
 - Refactor (Re-architect): Significantly modifying or rewriting the application code to be cloud-native, often to leverage microservices, containers, and serverless functions. This is the most powerful approach for long-term agility and scalability.
 - Repurchase: Switching to a different product, often moving from a traditional license to a cloud-native Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model (e.g., adopting a new CRM).
 - Retire: Identifying and decommissioning applications that are no longer useful, eliminating associated costs and complexity.
 - Retain: Deciding to keep certain applications on-premises for the time being, often due to technical constraints or regulatory requirements.
 - Relocate (Hypervisor-Level Lift-and-Shift): Moving virtual machines without any changes, typically applicable when migrating from another virtualized environment.
